This implies that it also interacts electromagnetically with air, because atoms and molecules are composed of electrically charged particles. If the object moves much faster than the speed of sound (330 meters per second at sea level) through air, it drives a shock wave. This inevitably generates a bright fireball of hot plasma, bounded by a loud pressure wave.
